Obituary

Harriet (Wegner) Van Der Wegen, 83 passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital. Harriet was born on August 16, 1942, to the late Alvin and Mildred Wegner.

On November 5, 1966, Harriet married Larry Van Der Wegen at Morrison Zion Lutheran Church. They were married for 58 years before Larry was called home early last year.

Harriet was employed with Wayside Greenleaf Bank for 18 years. She then went to Sargento Foods for 12 years, retiring at the age of 65. Harriet's love for cooking then led her to Econo Foods in Brillion where she worked for another 10 years.

She loved to cook for her family, always making sure to make everyone's favorite dish. She loved to garden and maintained many house plants. Harriet's favorite holiday was Christmas, which was evident with her huge collection of Santas. She enjoyed playing Cribbage, which she continued playing with her children after Larry passed away.

Harriet is survived by her 3 children, Kurt (Kelly) Van Der Wegen of Little Suamico, Kay (Brian) Koenigs of Brillion, and Kevin "Butch" Van Der Wegen of Menchelville, 4 grandchildren, Jeremy (Hannah) Duffey, Ciara Barts, Brody Koenigs, and Katerra Van Der Wegen, as well as 4 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers David (Phyllis) Wegner, Allen Wegner, sister Julie (Jon) Countess, brothers-in-law Lenny Van Der Wegen, Jim Kempinger, and sister-in-law Denise Schneider, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her parents, her in-laws Robert and Alice Van Der Wegen, brothers-in-law Robert Van Der Wegen and Ron La Haye, sisters-in-law Nancy Stiebs, Diane Kempinger, Margie Van Der Wegen, Joyce Van Der Wegen, and Virginia Wegner.

Friends and family may come to call on Saturday, April 11 from 9:00am to 12:00 pm at Morrison Zion Lutheran Church, 7395 County W, Greenleaf, WI 54126. The funeral service will begin immediately following visitation with Pastor James Enderle officiating. Burial will follow at Morrison Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Nickel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family would like to express their special thanks for the staff at West Haven in Brillion and the staff at St. Vincent Hospital.
