Obituary

Florence E Brandt-Wagner, age 90, went to her Heavenly home on May 19, 2023. She was born on August 7, 1932 to Frank & Lorraine Rahn in the Township of Morrison, WI where she grew up on the family farm. As a young child, Florence was the first patient in Wisconsin to receive penicillin flown in from New York to treat her ruptured appendix.

In 1949, Florence married Herbert Brandt (who predeceased her in death in 1994) and lived in Kaukauna, WI where their three sons, Gary, Greg and John were raised until they all moved north to Wrightstown, WI in 1961. Florence created the architectural design for the cottage at Crooked Lake built by Herb and the boys.

Florence and Herb belonged to a card club playing sheepshead once a month originally started by Ervin Kasten that lasted for 35 years. They included: Ervin & June, Elder & Lois, Elroy & Phyllis, Eddie & Jeanette and Elmer & Joy. The Card Club group enjoyed traveling together with trips every year to various locations up north Wisconsin.

Florence's love of music expanded through her entire life. As a 3-year old child, Florence was feeding the rabbits with her hand when suddenly one of them bit off her middle finger to the first knuckle. She learned to play the piano, and eventually organ, even with that shortened finger. Florence taught music in her homes but was also the organist at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna and then at St John Lutheran Church in Wrightstown for a total of 40 years. She became the Director of Music at Henri's School of Music in Green Bay for 20 years. Florence also was a composer and published author of many sacred music songs. She truly enjoyed all aspects of music which included leading the Men's Choir and Chapel Choir at St John Church for 35 years.

Florence was an avid Packers fan who knew the names of all the old and new players, could tell you what plays were good or bad and remembered what years were special. She passed on her love of the Packers to her boys but especially Gary who enjoyed watching the games with her.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Florence also was a talented artist who created paintings of scenic pastures, sunsets and even portraits of her first husband and three sons.

In 1997, Florence married John Wagner who was friends with her brother Wilmer. John and Florence enjoyed traveling in "The Van" to California and Texas, but also close to home in Two Rivers, to visit John's children and grandchildren. "The Van" carried friends to Card Club, to Birthday Club and always a favorite, their gambling group. Florence even learned to golf with John. They shared a love of cards and played cribbage just about every day.

Florence is survived by her three sons: Gary (Jean) Brandt, Wrightstown WI; Greg (Karen) Brandt, Crooked Lake, WI; John (Mary) Brandt, Kimberly, WI; grandchildren: Noel (Brian) Hoffeller, Kristal Wichman, Brian (Michelle) Brandt, Joe Brandt, Emily Brandt, Jennifer (Jason) Hale, Kimberly (Mark) Kuchenbecker; and numerous great grandchildren. Also survived by step-children: Gail (Chuck) Ryan Taylor, Oceanside, CA; Donna Wagner, Wichita Falls, TX, Jo Ann Wagner, Two Rivers, WI; step-grandchildren: Peter (Amanda) Wagner, Polly (John) Birkherd, Patina (Chad) Berardi, TJ Wagner, Jennifer (Nathan) Magnon, Jo (Andrew) Artric, Nicole Stegemann, Kyle (Cassie) Stegemann; and numerous step-great grandchildren. Further survived by siblings: Darleen (Tom) Behlng and Alan (Wendy) Rahn.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Herbert and John, brother Wilmer, granddaughter Amie Christensen, stepsons Gary Wagner and Tim Wagner.
