Erna C. Kocian, 98, Wayside, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024. She was born in Morrison on March 29, 1926, to the late Charles and Sadie (Haelfrisch) Bornemann.

On September 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Virgil Kocian.

Erna was the bookkeeper for Kocian's Garage in Wayside, that she and Virgil ran for 50 years. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside. Erna enjoyed cooking, singing, and humming as she did her day-to-day activities.

She is survived by her children; Tom Kocian, Debra (Chuck) Haataja, Dennis (special friend Laura) Kocian, and daughter in law Joy Kocian. Erna is further survived by her 10 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, their son Gerald, as well as her parents and siblings.

Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church, 8378 County Rd W (Greenleaf) Wayside from 9:00AM Wednesday, August 21st, until time of service at 11:00AM with Pastor Jed McClellan officiating. Nickel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
