Obituary for Esther Nohr

NOHR, ESTHER M.
Town of Morrison/Green Bay
Esther Martha Nohr, 94, peacefully passed to her heavenly home on November21, 2017. She was born in the Town of Morrison to the late Arthur, Sr. and Margaret (Plautz) Schultz on July 25, 1923.
Esther grew up on a dairy farm in southern Brown County, the fourth oldest in a family of ten children. Typical for children of that age, she helped her mother with house work and her father with farm work. She attended grade school at Zion Lutheran School (walking 4 miles each way every day) and 2 years of high school.
She also worked as a maid for several families in Manitowoc. It was while working as a maid that she walked to church with a friend one night. During the service she felt Christ enter her heart. From that night on, she dedicated her life to Him.
Esther married Norman Nohr on April 15, 1944. They lived in a two family farmhouse outside of Lark, WI, with Norman’s parents and their children Nancy, Jan, Ron, Daryl and Wayne were welcomed while they lived there. In 1951 they moved to their new home in Wayside, WI. Their remaining children Lana, Rose Anne, Linda and Paul were welcomed to their Wayside home. Norman and Esther celebrated 50 years of marriage before Norman was called to his heavenly reward on December 19, 1994.
She loved to bake and shared her treats with family, friends and neighbors. As an adult she completed her GED. In 1996, Esther moved from Wayside to an apartment on Briar Lane in Allouez. She moved to Cardinal Ridge Residential Care in 2015. Throughout her life she was a prolific letter and story writer and devoted reader of the Bible and other religious texts.
Esther was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside, confirming her faith in 1937. She was an avid Zion Ladies Aid member and was an original member of the Zion prayer chain. For many years she participated in the Wednesday morning Bible study and volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift store for over 20 years. With Norman and the children she enjoyed many years of camping with the Wayside Rough Riders. In recent years Esther treasured time with her Best Friends Forever group.
She will be missed by her children: Nancy Slaby, Jan Upton, Ron (Jean) Nohr, Daryl (Sue) Nohr, Wayne (Kathy) Nohr, Lana (Ted) Ossmann, Rose Anne (Steve) Dallaire, Linda (John) Kirchner; daughter-in-law Deb (Steve) Krumpos; twenty two grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren (with another expected in April of 2018); sister Lauraine Bruss; brother-in-law Marvin (Kathy) Behnke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Norman; their son Paul; son-in-law: Allan Slaby; parents Arthur, Sr. and Margaret; her in-laws Edwin and Adelia (Fels) Nohr; brothers, sisters and in-laws: Dorothy (Rupert) Kamke, Harold (Bernice) Schultz, Eleanor (Ray) Fieck, Gilbert (Elda) Schultz, Cecelia Behnke, Gertrude (Edward) Pagel, Florence (Harold) Allen, Gil Bruss, Arthur, Jr. (Marlene) Schultz; sister-in-law, brothers-in–law; grandson Marcus Dallaire; and great-granddaughter Angelina Bamman.
Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church, 8378 County Rd. W, Greenleaf (in Wayside), beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 until the time of service at 11:30 AM with Pastor Austen Welter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Nickel Funeral Home, Morrison is assisting the family.

Esther’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the following caregivers who have attended to Esther’s needs: Dr. Steven Perry; Dr. Tracy Sherman; Drs. Anatol and Natalie Stankevych; and the staff members of Cardinal Ridge Residence Care and of Unity Hospice. The family would also offer our sincere thanks to Pastor Austen Welter and to the many teams of visitors who attended to our mom.

PRECIOUS LORD, TAKE MY HAND

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm lone
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

Thomas A. Dorsey
